Children who skip breakfast, increase the risk of diabetes in later life, say scientists. The reason is that these children are insulin resistant, which is a key factor in the development of the disease.
The study involved 4,000 British students from elementary school to 9 or 10 years old. The results indicate that children who did not have time for the morning meal showed greater signs associated with diabetes than those who always eat breakfast.
The children who have missed the morning meal had higher levels of insulin, and their bodies are less able to respond to the hormone that normally regulates the amount of glucose in the blood.
